Wild Jersey

This wildlife club is a brand new initiative in Jersey for families with children aged between 4 and 16 years of age to inspire and guide families and to nurture the young naturalists of tomorrow. The club has its headquarters at Hamptonne Country Life Museum, for which I am delighted to have the support of Jersey Heritage.

Den Building at Twilight

Description: A bit of den building, a bit of Forest School all wrapped up together in a 2 hour activity. For 2 hours, kids will be tasked with building their own dens, camouflaging them and then cooking marsh mallows and drinking hot chocolate to celebrate. No parents allowed on this one! Although the kids are welcome to show off their dens at the very end.

Duration: 2 hours

Price: £10 per child

Age of children: 7 years+

Additional notes: The activity is for children aged 7-11 years of age. Please bring appropriate clothing for den building and if you would like to bring snacks then you are more than welcome too.  Marshmallows and Hot Chocolate will be provided. This activity is limited to 10 children. 


Rockpooling at La Rocque

Description: Join us as we spend 2 hours exploring the rock pools and habitats of La Rocque.

Meeting point: La Rocque Harbour Slipway (next to the toilets to the cafe and public toilets)

Age of children: 4 years+

Additional notes: Please aware the appropriate footwear for rock pooling. Please note that all children must be accompanied by an adult. 


A Welcome to Forest School

Description: An introductory session full of Forest School activities, located in the meadows and woodlands at Hamptonne during the summer evenings.

Meeting point: Hamptonne Countrylife Museum Car Park

Price: £10 per child

Age of children: 7 years+

Additional notes: Please make sure that all children are appropriately dressed for activities outdoors. This activity is for children only, no parents allowed. 

Forest School for Families

Description: Based at Hamptonne Countrylife Museum, a session of Forest School Activities for families. Maximum number of families for this activity is 8.

Age of children: 4+ years of age

Additional notes: Please make sure that all children are appropriately dressed for activities outdoors. 

Wildlife at Night

Description: A special session for a single family where we explore the world of wildlife at dusk and at night. Here comes the possibility of bats, hedgehogs, moths, crickets, Barn owls and anything else that may come our way. The end point is my own personal barn owl box and the chance to see a glimpse of a pair of owls who currently have young.

Duration: 2-3 hours

Cost: £50

Age of children: TBC

Notes: This activity will involved a gentle stroll around the quiet lanes of St. Ouen, looking, watching and observing wildlife. I will make sure to point out as many species as possible with Barn Owls at the very end. 


Insects, bugs and mini beasts

Description: Insects, bugs, minibeasts and creepy crawlies, whatever you call them, the group of Insects are the most successful animal family in the world. hey are among the most diverse groups of animals on the planet, including more than a million described species and representing more than half of all known living organisms  How crazy is that? Join us for a good old family bug hunt within and around the Grounds at Hamptonne.

Cost: £5 per child (Maximum of 15 children)

Age of children: 4 years+

Additional notes: Please aware the appropriate footwear for bug hunting as we may encounter nettles and thorns. If you have your own bug hunting equipment then please bring that with you.
